"Happiness is not the absence of conflict, but the ability to cope with it."
Eagles of the Day
Every child receives an “Eagle of the Day” form to complete when they enroll at DES. They answer questions about themselves. On the announcements each day these children are spotlighted. They have their picture taken where they are displayed on the “Eagle of the Day” bulletin board for all to see.

BISD has developed the
Community of Respect Everywhere
value system which we focus on during lessons each six week period.
1st six week: Responsibility
2nd six weeks: Empathy
3rd six weeks: Kindness
4th six weeks: Honesty
5th six weeks: Acceptance
6th six weeks: Courage
Children are selected from each class to
attend a 10 week motivational program to
encourage friendship and positive behaviors.
Soaring Citizen Facilitators
4th and 5th grade children are trained to help
set up for the Soaring Citizen Celebration
and to help facilitate making crafts with the
younger students. These children are a very
important part of making the celebration a success!
Students are chosen by their classmates and/or
teachers to represent their homeroom for displaying
positive characteristics of the
7 Habits of Happy Kids.
These students are invited to
attend a Jungle themed award party at the end of each six weeks. They participate in making a craft, and they get to have their pictures taken so everyone can see their super star behavior in the main hall on a “Soaring Citizen” bulletin board.
New Leadership Opportunities
Mrs. Keller and Mrs. Sanchez are training several 4th and 5th grade students to be Peer Mediators. The students are being trained to provide a safe, scripted, confidential, structured process to assist other students in conflict to end disputes peacefully by reaching mutually acceptable agreements. "Peers Making Peace" is a research based, educator created program that we are implementing through the after school ASPIRE program at DES.
You can check out the students in one
of their first training excercises by clicking
on the youtube website above.
Have questions about raising your children? Call the FREE Parentling Advice Line Monday thru Friday, 12-3.
A friendly, well mannered boy and girl from each class is trained to greet new students and introduce them to the students and faculty at DES.
