Welcome, ! | |
All students at the Shannon Learning Center are asked to perform a minumum of 5 hours of community service each quarter. Many students earn their hours by participating in activities at their churches, in their neighborhoods, or by participating in school-arranged events such as the blood drives held on campus each quarter. Two years ago, Assistant Principal Lori Dazey started a program called Shannon Pays It Forward. SPIF. Ms Dazey supervises a range of volunteer opportunities for students. She has taken students to the Trinity Trash Bash and to the Union Gospel where student volunteers have served meals on weekends. One of the best events was a Saturday morning spent volunteering at a local Nursing & Rehabilitation Home located near the school. Students visited with residents, painted fingernails, sang songs, and had a great time with some wonderful senior citizens. Currently, students are furnishing canned goods as part of the Christmas Providers effort. Christmas Providers puts together boxes of canned foods and other food staples to give to those in our community who need help during times of struggle. | |
