  • On behalf of BISD Council of PTAs, we would like to congratulate and welcome Shannon High School PTSA as our newest PTA unit!

Forty charter members joined the newly formed PTA during their organizational meeting on September 22nd prior to the school’s Open House.  A representative from Texas PTA, Beth Crymes, chaired the meeting in which attendees voted to organize a PTA, bylaws were accepted, officers were elected, a budget accepted, and members joined.

Shannon High School PTSA is now part of the largest child-advocacy association in Texas.  The mission of PTA is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.  As a valuable line between home, school, and the community, providing all with important information benefiting our children, PTA helps strengthen the quality of life and education in our community.

  • reflections   "What is your Story?"

Express your artistic talent and tell us your story through Reflections!

The Reflections program recognizes students at the Local, Council/Region, State and National PTA levels. At each level, all entries are judged on interpretation of the theme, creativity and artistic merit.

Reflections has encouraged millions of student to express themselves by giving positive recognition for their artistic efforts. BISD's own Vanessa Lopez-Campos, Haltom High School student, was recognized by Texas PTA for her literature submission in the 2015-16 PTA’s Reflection Contest.

Students in preschool through grade 12 may create and submit works of art in six categories: dance, choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography and visual arts.

Students may enter  any or all of the six art categories. Multiple entries within a single arts category is permitted.  Each entry must be the original work of one student and created specifically for the Reflections program based on the national theme. Each entry must also conform to the guidelines developed by the National PTA.

Please visit for detailed information, rules and forms.

  • New Resources for PTA Members on the Every Student Succeeds Act

National PTA has compiled a fact sheet and questionnaire for PTA members to use when interacting with state and local education leaders during the implementation of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). The new resource, "Start a Conversation: Questions PTA Members Should Ask about the ESSA Implementation" can be found on National PTA's ESSA webpage at

In addition, National PTA Government Affairs staff worked with the Council on Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) and provided input on their recently released ESSA Stakeholder Engagement Guide. This guide can also be found on National PTA's ESSA webpage at
