Announcements

  • On behalf of BISD Council of PTAs, we would like to congratulate and welcome Shannon High School PTSA as our newest PTA unit!

Forty charter members joined the newly formed PTA during their organizational meeting on September 22nd prior to the school’s Open House.  A representative from Texas PTA, Beth Crymes, chaired the meeting in which attendees voted to organize a PTA, bylaws were accepted, officers were elected, a budget accepted, and members joined.

Shannon High School PTSA is now part of the largest child-advocacy association in Texas.  The mission of PTA is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.  As a valuable line between home, school, and the community, providing all with important information benefiting our children, PTA helps strengthen the quality of life and education in our community.

  • New Resources for PTA Members on the Every Student Succeeds Act

National PTA has compiled a fact sheet and questionnaire for PTA members to use when interacting with state and local education leaders during the implementation of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). The new resource, "Start a Conversation: Questions PTA Members Should Ask about the ESSA Implementation" can be found on National PTA's ESSA webpage at pta.org/ESSA.

In addition, National PTA Government Affairs staff worked with the Council on Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) and provided input on their recently released ESSA Stakeholder Engagement Guide. This guide can also be found on National PTA's ESSA webpage at pta.org/ESSA.
