ASPIRE is a five year federal grant funded by the Texas Education Agency. ASPIRE (After School Program Inspiring and Reinforcing Education) is a Texas 21st Century Community Learning center. This grant became available as a result of the federal “No Child Left Behind Act of 2001”.

This grant provides educational experiences for our students with before and after school programs and parent support. These programs help our students and families meet state and local student performance standards by improving academics, attendance, behavior, promotion and graduation rates. Our services and programs include both enrichment and academic activities. Students are encouraged but not required to participate in the program.

Activities include tutoring sessions for students who need additional academic assistance, interactive math, science, reading and writing activities and enrichment activities in sports, crafts, fitness and nutrition. Some of our current classes include computer labs, literacy groups, musical instruments and singing, art, cooking basketball, running and walking, chess, vocabulary, soccer, jewelry making, reader’s theater, serial writing, puppetry, aerobics, recycling, animal-links, yo-yo, health and body, ghost stories, and tutorials in science, reading and math. Parental classes and workshops are available in language, GED prep, and life skills.

Establishing and strengthening formal and informal partnerships is believed to be a key in the long term success of the ASPIRE program.
