My goal for the school year is for all my students to feel secure loved, and that they learn to be lifelong learners.
Discipline
There will be a Behavior calendar in the Kid's Notebook each six weeks. A list of rules is located at the bottom of the calendar. The rules are numbered. I will write the number of the rule broken on that day, and mark out a grade. There are letter grades for conduct and work habits. Those grades then are transferred to the student's report card at the end of the six weeks. Student's put a sticker each day for good behavior.
An individual student checklist will be used to report student progress rather than traditional report cards. The checklist will provide more specific information about a student's growth in skills and concepts being taught in a six weeks grading period. Progress will be reported as follows:
Attendance
It is very important that your child be here every day. In First Grade, much of what we do is discussed in class and followed up with hands-on activities. When your child is not here, it is very difficult to make up the assignments.
First grade students are required to read a book and practice spelling words for 20 minutes Monday through Thursday. Students who achieve this goal will receive a sticker on their homework chart. The title of the book and a parent's signature must be written in their planner for that day's date
A folder with graded work is sent home every Tuesday in a folder marked “Tuesday Folder. A parent should sign and return the folder the next day.
