title No Child Left Behind

Overview

The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 is perhaps the most sweeping reform of federal education legislation since the original Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965. Birdville ISD receives federal funds to support many educational programs as a result of the No Child Left Behind Act. NCLB focuses on four major areas:

  • Accountability for Student Achievement. NCLB sets stringent performance goals for student achievement. All students and student subgroups are expected to achieve at identified levels. Each district and each campus within the district are expected to make "Adequate Yearly Progress” (AYP) each year. Additionally, NCLB sets qualification requirements for teachers to ensure that all students are taught by "highly qualified" instructional staff. This Act also outlines required interventions when Title I campuses fail to make AYP.
  • Focus on What Works. NCLB puts a special focus on doing what works by stressing the importance of selecting instructional programs that have a proven track record. The district is expected to use "scientifically based research" information in making curriculum decisions.
  • Flexibility. The district has additional flexibility in using federal funds.
  • Parent Involvement. NCLB mandates that parents be involved and informed.

Birdville ISD receives federal funding from Title I, Part A;  Title II,  Part A; and Title III programs as part of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965.  Federal funds are utilized to directly support the intended purposes and beneficiaries of each program, as listed below.
