    The Shannon Learning Center

    The Shannon Learning Center is an alternative high school program. We are on an accelerated block schedule which has proven to be highly successful with at-risk students. Enrollment in the Learning Center program is limited in the number of students accepted each quarter. Admission is by application and interview only; there are no automatic admissions. Applications must be accompanied by a current transcript. There are openings at the start of each nine weeks due to a number of students who complete all credits and graduate each quarter. Priority for acceptance into Shannon is given to senior and junior level applicants. Sophomore students are also accepted as space allows. A very limited number of Freshmen are admitted through a program called FOCUS (Freshman Opportunity to Catch Up with Support). Once a student is enrolled at Shannon and meets our requirements for mastery of at least three classes per quarter or seven per semester, he or she is automatically re-enrolled for each succeeding quarter. However, the student always has the right to withdraw from the Learning Center and return to his or her home school at the start of that school's next semester. Credits earned at Shannon are fully accepted BISD credits and will be reflected on transcripts from the student's home campus. Our Location The Shannon Center is conveniently located across from the Thomas Coliseum at the top of Birdville Hill above the BISD District Offices.
