Educational Journey
My background is deeply rooted in education. Two aunts were teachers, and three uncles taught and went on to become administrators. My husband, John Wilson, is a teacher/coach at Birdville High School and is in his 32nd year in the profession. Our daughter, Abbie McFarland, became a teacher and taught for six years before becoming a stay at home Mom to three little girls. Cole, our son, is a sophomore at Harding University. As you can see, not only do I have roots in education, I also have branches.
I was born and educated in DeQueen, Arkansas and went on to attend Harding University, a Christian university located in Searcy, Arkansas. It was there that I found my calling to the teaching profession.
My journey in education is in its 29th year and has taken me through two states and seven districts. I spent eight years in Arkansas teaching third, fourth, and fifth grades. Then my husband's job brought us to Texas where I taught fourth and fifth grades and served as a reading coach for K-3 for four years. It has been a journey of twists and turns with a lot of excitement and new experiences for which I am thankful. I recall telling my mother during my early years of teaching that I couldn't believe I got paid to do something I loved so much! Even after 29 years, if I had it all to do over again, I would still become a teacher.
I am now in my third year at Birdville Elementary where I teach fifth grade math. It is a joy to work with the students of this community every day and watch them grow in their love for learning!
